Now that it’s time to ditch the winter boots, let’s talk about what makes a shoe a good shoe to support your kiddos. Having a supportive shoe that fits your child appropriately sets the foundation for good movement while they are playing and exploring outside and in the community.

You should not be able to bend a show in half! A sole should be straight and not curved. Look at the bottom of the shoe, you should be able to draw a straight line from the heal to the top of the shoe.

Make sure that the show has a wide toe box that cramming or crushing your kiddo’s toes.

Ankle stability is very important. Laces or a velcro strap over the top of the shoe is most beneficial versus a slip on shoes or flipflops. For sandals, a strap behind the ankle is essential for support.

Breathable material helps keep feet clean and reduces risk of blisters. Don’t forget to wear socks with shoes. Breathable material will reduce the buildup of sweat and provide better traction to improve balance!
